Remember the 2000s? We were all watching the OC, watching Mean Girls and taking grainy photos with the VGA cameras on our flip phones. You might have a chance to revisit millennial nostalgia real soon since Samsung is trying to make flip phones cool again with the debut of their Leader 8 or SM-G9298 model. Don’t be fooled though, these aren’t the boxy silver monstrosities that you were using back in 2009; the Leader 8 is a sleek black and gold device boasting two 4.2-inch full HD Super AMOLED displays. The top display resembles a regular smartphone interface, but you can flip it open to reveal a second screen as well as a traditional T9 keyboard.
Made of aviation grade aluminium, the phone’s heart is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which is expandable using a memory card. The VGA camera has been traded in for a 12-megapixel f/1.7 camera as well as a front facing 5-megapixel f/1.9 camera. A fingerprint scanner lets you unlock the device with ease.
Pre-installed with Android Nougat, the Leader 8 also supports Samsung Pay support and S Voice. There’s a catch though, Pocket Lint stated that the phone is unlikely that the phone is unlikely to be released anywhere but China. No doubt a crushing blow to all the twenty-somethings reading articles about the 15 best things about growing up in the late ‘90s.
