Cartier’s Panthère Kentia necklace feels like it holds an entire universe within it, with a striking 50.13-carat Ceylon sapphire at its heart, fiercely guarded by the Maison’s century-old feline icon, marrying geometry and whimsy like never before.

Now that I have seen Cartier’s Panthère Kentia high jewelry necklace, I will never look at the color blue the same way again. It will no longer call to mind the sky, the ocean, or a pair of striking eyes. From now on, blue will belong to this spectacular creation from the Le Chœur des Pierres (The Chorus of Stones) High Jewelry collection. Seen up close, the necklace feels like a universe unto itself, with a mythic panther presiding over its brilliant blue center. It brings together Cartier’s favorite contrasts with effortless drama, from geometric lines and free-flowing curves to the icy whiteness of diamonds and the deep, liquid glow of an oval cabochon sapphire.

Revealed Wednesday in a Provençal castle just outside Saint-Tropez, Le Chœur des Pierres takes the four classical precious stones as its starting point. The Kentia necklace is an ode to the beauty of blue. At the heart of the triangular necklace, composed largely of dazzling diamonds in a graduated pattern and accented with smaller sapphires, rests a panther of diamonds and onyx. The feline reclines on a 50.13-carat Ceylon cabochon sapphire, a stone that gives the piece its hypnotic depth. Triangular diamond solitaires are set along the spine of the necklace, creating a three-dimensional design element that gives it an almost prism-like appeal.

The panther is not merely a decorative flourish. It is Cartier’s most powerful animal symbol and has been part of the Maison’s creative language since 1914. More than 100 years later, the feline still claims pride of place, reclining over the 50.13-carat Ceylon cabochon sapphire like the guardian of an entire blue universe. Emeralds and onyx appear only as the panther’s eyes and spots, keeping every other hue to a minimum in this ethereal masterpiece. The result is a necklace that does not merely celebrate blue, it turns the color into a kingdom, with Cartier’s most famous feline guarding its throne.

“Letting a stone speak is to recognize in it a memory of the world, a beauty shaped by time and imbued with eternity,” said Jacqueline Karachi-Langane, director of high jewelry creation for the French jeweler. “Each gemstone is an encounter, an alchemy that resonates with our vision and our quest for the Cartier ideal.” Overall, the Le Chœur des Pierres High Jewelry collection is a masterclass in gemstone orchestration, comprising 52 unique creations that harmonize a total of approximately 550 carats of stones. Besides sapphire, Cartier focuses primarily on emeralds, sapphires, rubies, turquoise, and diamonds.
