A rock so huge, even the sound is dizzying – both in weight, and price. De Grisogono has acquired the world’s most expensive rough diamond – The Constellation – for $63 million that weighs 813 carats and measures 6cms. The acquisition was made at Sotheby’s from Dubai-based trading company Nemesis International who plucked it out from the Karowe Mine in Botswana by Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond. What a journey it has been. This announcement was made at the opening of the Biennale des Antiquaries at the Grand Palais in Paris.
“Fit for a princess”, or considered a queen by de Grisogono founder Fawaz Grousi. He is in a love-hate relationship with the stone – love for her exquisite beauty and hate for being so extravagant that he is unsure of how to dress her up. And being a diamond, it cannot receive an alternate gender. He also converses with her, it seems, asking her what she likes to wear. Nemesis has been keeping busy this year – The Constellation being the second. The first one was a 404-carat rough diamond. So ladies, alter your husbands/partners. This Christmas could be more sparkling than ever.
