Gilded antique French armchairs stand on lion paw feet


When Napoleon took over France, he also brought a different charisma with him, something known as the Empire style in today’s world. And taking a cue from the Regency and American Empire styles is this pair of antique French giltwood armchairs. While the intricately carved frame looks every bit regal, the chair’s highlight is the carved winged griffons on the chair’s arms, finished with lion paw feet for the front legs of the chair.

As for comfortable seating, the 28 1/4-inch wide, 32-inch deep and 36 5/8-inch high comes neatly upholstered with a luxurious brocade fabric. Priced at $88,500 these chairs dated 1840 are truly magnificent.
