Mikhail S. Gorbachev is the new Louis Vuitton model!

I found it hard to bury my laughter when I got to know that Mikhail Gorbachev is the latest model for Louis Vuitton. I mean LV could zero upon some better-looking icon like the Clintons or the likes. I don’t mean to say that Gorby is ugly but you know there something called ‘the oomph factor’! However, the fact is that Gorbachev has got the opportunity to join the Louis Vuitton gang of Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lopez, Uma Thurman. The former president of the Soviet Union is starring in a new ad campaign by the pricey purveyors of must-have bags. The Vuitton ad, however, is part of a campaign to emphasize the company’s heritage in luggage and travel accessories. The ad features Mr. Gorbachev in the back of a car holding on to the door handle with a duffel bag on the seat next to him.

Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, the ads include other celebrities using Vuitton bags: Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf cuddling in a hotel room, their bags not yet unpacked; Catherine Deneuve resting on a trunk in front of a steaming locomotive; and of the group, Mr. Gorbachev appears the least comfortable. The ads will appear in the ad-heavy September fashion magazine of Vogue. I was more taken aback when I realized that this isn’t his first foray into the wild world of advertising. The 76-year old Nobel Peace Prize winner formerly appeared in a Pizza Hut commercial. Maybe I can also be optimistic to get offers from the glitzy world of modeling at that age!
