Someone actually paid $650,000 for an NFT of a luxury yacht

Every so often, we hear the internet splurging on virtual art. After the news of a virtual patch of land selling for $2.4 million, we now have the sale of the Metaflower Super Mega Yacht. Developed by Metaverse developer Republic Realm, the digital yacht has fetched a whopping $650,000, making it the most expensive NFT asset in The Sandbox.

An extension of the Fantasy Islands development and one-of-one NFT that falls under the Fantasy Collection, the Metaflower consists of a DJ booth, helicopter landing pad, and hot tub, among several other amenities.

It is one of many assets that Republic Realm plans to release as part of the Fantasy Collection, which consists of a suite of luxury NFTs including private islands, jet skis, and speedboats, along with exclusive access to the members-only beach club and Fantasy Marina for holders.

Commenting on the sale, Republic Realm on Twitter stated, “Congrats to the new owner of The Metaflower NFT Super Mega Yacht on making metaverse NFT history. This auction marks the highest price paid for a @TheSandboxGame NFT asset at 149 ETH ($650,000) and an exciting time for every member of the Fantasy Community.”

Remarking further, one Twitter user said, ‘The person who owns this must have a mega yacht irl,’ while another added, ‘But this one stays with him forever and ever.’ Would you fancy buying yourself a digital yacht for six figure sum?
