The world may be living in the present, but Dubai lives in the future. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has partnered with innovative travel experts to develop two futuristic transport systems. In the not-so-distant future, flying taxis and self-driving cars will be joined by sustainable, solar-powered rail buses and high-speed travel pods. According to Zawya, Dubai’s RTA has signed two memoranda of understanding as part of the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF).
The first memorandum revolves around developing the Floc Duo Rail system, while the second focuses on developing a rail bus system. The Floc Duo Rail will use a double-track system, allowing transportation units to move quickly and efficiently. The second system travels on a bridge equipped with solar panels, generating the electricity needed to operate the system.
Urban-Mass Company, based in the UK, and RAIL BUS Inc., based in the US, have been roped in for the same. Abdul Mohsen Kalbat, CEO of the Rail Agency at RTA, said, ‘The signing of these two MoUs is part of RTA’s strategic plans to engage in communication with premier companies and specialized entities in this field to identify and adopt the most sophisticated and advanced practices. Currently, RTA is exploring a range of innovations in the field of transportation systems, including the world’s first innovative transportation system, the ‘Floc Duo Rail.’ This system features double tracks that allow transportation units to move swiftly and efficiently within urban areas. It is a driverless system that uses electrical power, adapting with short units during low peak periods and long units during high peak periods to effectively meet the emirate’s needs.’
He added, ‘The second novel transportation system from Urban Mass features vehicles operating on a bridge outfitted with solar panels. These panels harness solar energy to power the system, ensuring its operation in Dubai. This system is distinguished by its contemporary design and offers the advantage of lower costs compared to similar transportation systems. This step reflects RTA’s strategy for achieving sustainable development and improving the city’s quality of life.’
He continued, ‘RTA reiterates its commitment to adopting the latest technologies and innovations in transportation, enhancing the passenger experience in the emirate of Dubai.'” according to Zawya, ultra-lightweight vehicles require track infrastructure costs less than 20% of the budget required in a Metro system with the same length and capacity. Not to mention the feat of creating mass transportation solutions with zero emissions!
