The millionaire founder of an exploration company has commissioned a 174-foot custom support vessel for marine exploration and environmental conservation

Dutch yard Damen Yachting has introduced its latest build, a stunning 53.3-metre support vessel that was launched in a ceremony held in Antalya, Turkey in the presence of her “delighted owner” Tommy Allen. The vessel has been named Five Oceans by Allen as it will assist his company, Five Oceans Global Solutions, which is dedicated to marine conservation, resource management, and safe, responsible deep-sea exploration. “Five Oceans will be used to research life below the surface of our oceans, a topic and cause central to Mr. Allen’s operations and an important vision that we are honoured to be contributing to with this Yacht Support platform,” said Jan van Hogerwou, a commercial executive at Damen Yachting. “Seeing her out in the open and ready for the final stages of her build before her delivery just a couple of months from now is the start of something truly exciting.”

It took two years to design and develop the support vessel, which belongs to the Dutch yard’s YS 53 series. Construction began at the end of 2022, and the vessel is set to be delivered in a few months when it will begin its life as a platform for marine exploration and environmental conservation. Five Ocean features a sky-blue hull with orange and black contrasting accents, which symbolize the vessel’s ambitious and adventurous purpose.

The interior and exterior have both been designed by Damen Yachting and tailored to meet the owner’s preferences. It has enough space to accommodate 8 guests, 10 crew members, plus the captain.

The support vessel features a vast aft deck, which is meant to carry a number of toys and tenders along with a 15-tonne deck crane for launch and recovery. It is powered by two Rolls Royce MTU engines that have a combined output of 6,000hp, which gives the vessel a top speed of 19 knots. Furthermore, it is fully IMO Tier III compliant, reducing harmful emissions by 70% for full-range operations. Damen Yachting says the Five Oceans is “strongly focused on highly demanding performance, efficiency and comfort.”
