Entry-level Mercedes SL400 launched in America dropping price of range by over $20k

Have you ever wanted to get yourself one of those gorgeous looking droptops but refrained from the idea thinking about the big six figure price-tag? Well, there’s finally a choice that won’t burn a hole in your pocket and yet it’s one of the best roadsters in the market currently. Mercedes has made its SL-Class, one of the premier luxury droptops from the German automaker, little bit more accessible for the 2015 model year with its new SL400 which has been finally added to the range in the Untied States. After the Mercedes-Benz SL350 was discontinued, the SL550 was the entry-level model in the range with a starting price of $107,825. The marquee has quietly added the new base model to the line-up and the pricing starts at $84,000, plus the usual $925 destination charge, which is a whopping $22,900 less than the previous base model. For that price, now you can have the Mercedes SL400 roadster and a practical everyday car for the misses!

The new Mercedes SL400 was unveiled a couple of months back and it foregoes V8 power of the SL550 in favor of a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V6 with 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque and seven-speed automatic rated at 20 miles per gallon city and 27 mpg highway. That’s about 100 hp and 160 lb-ft less than its bigger sibling but it can still get to 60 miles per hour in a quick 5.1 seconds. Despite its lower price, the buyers won’t have to compromise with the luxury features as the SL400 still comes well equipped with leather upholstery, wood trim, heated front seats, a navigation system and a 600-watt LOGIC7/Dolby 5.1 stereo system all fitted as standard. Optional extras include the $4,900 Premium 1 Package with rearview camera, PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist, active ventilated seats, active multi-contour seats with massage, an electronic trunk closer with hands-free access, KEYLESS-GO, and Mercedes’ novel AIRSCARF neck-level heating system; the $2,000 Sport Wheel Package with 19-inch AMG 5-Spoke wheels, a sport brake system and sport steering wheel; and the $2,950 Driver Assistance Package with DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise control, PRE-SAFE braking, active blind spot assist and active lane keeping assist. The 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400 is slated to begin arriving at dealerships later this month.
