If you had a $500,000 Ferrari in your garage, I’m sure you would be overly protective about the Italian exotic. In my case, I won’t even let anyone come close to the supercar. However, the super-rich in Dubai look at things differently. Globally renowned for its extravagant lifestyle, Dubai sometimes draws flak for its obnoxious opulence, which stems from the relentless pursuit of luxury, where bigger and more extravagant is the norm. A video that recently surfaced on Instagram perfectly demonstrates this absurdity. Instead of hiring a magician or a clown, the parents of a toddler in Dubai decided to use a Ferrari as a birthday party prop to keep the kids in attendance entertained.
The video might be deeply disturbing if you’re a diehard automotive enthusiast or a Ferrari fan. We don’t have much information besides what we can see in the short clip. A group of toddlers can be seen painting with brushes on what appears to be a Ferrari F8 Spider. The racing-inspired decoration in the background suggests the party is for Noah, who turned six. There’s also an illuminated sign that reads: “Born to win.”
The green and blue paint used by kids might be easily removable, but it’s still no way to treat a Ferrari. However, Dubai has a history of mistreating the jaw-dropping automobiles made by the iconic Italian manufacturer, even the rarest and most desirable ones. Last year, a real estate developer from Dubai turned a $5 million LaFerrari into a moving billboard for advertising luxury penthouses.
The Ferrari F8 Spider used as a canvas in the video might not be as rare or expensive as a LaFerrari, but it’s no less remarkable. The mid-engine supercar was unveiled in 2019 as a successor to the Ferrari 488. The model was also created as a homage to the last 45 years of Ferrari’s mid-engine V8s. It uses the same engine from the 488 Pista, a 3.9 L twin-turbocharged V8 engine that can churn out 710 hp 568 lb-ft of torque.
