Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is the world’s fastest electric convertible with 818 horsepower and a gorgeous design

Maserati has expanded its EV line-up by introducing its first-ever battery-powered convertible. Behold the GranCabrio Folgore, a droptop version of the electric GranTurismo that debuted almost two years ago. With a top speed of 180mph, Maserati’s latest offering takes the title of the world’s fastest convertible EV. Except for the foldable fabric top, the GranCabrio Folgore shares almost everything with its coupe sibling, which includes the styling and the powertrain.

What that means is that the electric cabriolet is powered by three radial-flux permanent-magnet motors, each with its own silicon carbide inverter. One of them powers the front wheels while the other two motors are placed at the back. The combined output stands at 751hp, while there’s a MaxBoost mode that can boot the total output to 818hp. Maserati claims the electric convertible can accelerate from zero to 62mph in just 2.8 seconds.

The GranCabrio Folgore features a T-shaped lithium-ion battery pack placed between and behind the passengers. The shape of the battery helped Maserati keep the height of the GranCabrio low, which sits just over 53 inches on the road. Additionally, it helps with better weight distribution and improved handling.

The battery pack has a capacity of 92.5-kWh, which gives the convertible a range of 278 miles on Europe’s WLTP cycle. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, 62 miles of range can be added in just five minutes. Maserati further claims that the battery can be recharged from 20 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes at certain DC chargers.

The power-operated fabric rooftop takes around 18 seconds to fold away and can be operated with the help of a button or simply by waving your hand, thanks to gesture control. The cabin is lined with high-end materials. While buyers can choose to upholster the seats with plush leather, Maserati is also offering a new fabric that is made out of recycled nylon derived from things like fishing nets. Additionally, the trim also includes carbon fiber with real copper threads.

Furthermore, the seats can also be specced with copper patterns that are laser-etched onto the fabric. The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is expected to reach the showrooms in early 2025. The pricing has not been revealed, but we expect it to have a starting price close to $220,000.
