After just six years on the seas, El Leon has been sold. This fast yacht boasts a top speed of around 30 knots and a cruising speed of 25 knots. El Leon was owned by Italian entrepreneur and former politician, Massimo Zanetti, often referred to by the media as the “King of Coffee.” He chose the Italian shipyard Overmarine to deliver a stellar vessel, and his wish was fulfilled. The luxury yacht was designed by Alberto Mancini, with Overmarine’s in-house team, and delivered in 2018. The 177-footer packs plenty of punch along with speed, making it an innately desirable boat.
From the trapezoidal shallow pool on the foredeck, flaunting a glass bottom that lets natural light into the master cabin, to the captivating and cavernous “club on the sea” with a terrace aft that opens on three sides, there is much to admire aboard the elegant El Leon. The ship, with 2,900 square feet of outdoor space, accommodates up to 11 guests in five cabins.
The full-beam master suite on the main deck is the pièce de résistance, featuring a private fold-out balcony that transforms the windows into a glass deck when opened.
The vessel is a gorgeous creation with refined features, such as two beautiful oval pieces of furniture that conceal fan coils. Wall coverings by Hermès and Rubelli, combined with nubuck and other leather finishes, create a comfortably luxurious ambiance, while custom-designed furniture, such as twin saloon sofas by Minotti, completes the space.
Every corner of El Leon is thoughtfully designed to blend style with comfort, making it a floating masterpiece that’s as beautiful as it is functional.
This high-speed marvel, El Leon, is powered by four MTU engines and boasts a transatlantic range of 3,800 nautical miles. The searingly speedy Mangusta’s 54-meter flagship was sold for $30 million.
Who is the maverick Massimo Zanetti?
If you must be a king, why not be the king of a coffee empire? The 76-year-old billionaire, who once grew potatoes and sold them to his mother, was born an entrepreneur, as he shared. The owner of Segafredo Zanetti, a global coffee company, owns 40 companies spread across the world with 4,000 employees. He also owned the Italian basketball team Virtus Segafredo Bologna, one of the most successful teams in Europe. He once shared, “I have always had money. I have had it and made it grow since I was very little, so much so that my older brothers asked me for it. The fact is that I was born an entrepreneur.” From growing vegetables to rabbit farming, and then taking over a bankrupt company, Silver Caffé, in his early twenties, his entrepreneurial journey is quite impressive. In no time, he turned it into another 14 roasters. In 2023, the Massimo Zanetti Beverage Group (MZB) reported a revenue of approximately $1.2 billion. According to Reuters, the tycoon has a personal net worth of $600 million.
