Need of the hour – This hybrid Venetian water taxi carves the way for a sustainable way of living

Water pollution is real and a menace that can ruin the quality of life for the generations to come. In addition to uncontrolled fishing and dumping, the use of luxury yachts and ships is a potential problem – which if unchecked, could ruin the environment. However, helping us with a solution is a Venice-based design studio Nuvolari Lenard with an all-new Venetian water taxi.

Designed as an answer to the increasing pollution levels in the Venetian waters, the ingenious taxi makes use of “green” technology without compromising on the standards of luxe that we’d expect. The idea to build an eco-friendly water vehicle was conceptualized by the firm at the 2019 edition of the Venice Boat Show, with diesel-electric hybrid propulsion being identified as a fitting alternative. The result being ‘Thunder’ – the 14-seat hybrid luxury water taxi in the making!

Commenting on the project, co-founder of Nuvolari Lenard – Carlo Nuvolari said, “Dan ( his partner) and I feel a strong connection with the city and have experienced first-hand the damage that is being caused to its delicate structures, through air and noise pollution as well as physical erosion. We felt that it was crucial to address the problems facing our beautiful hometown and that Nuvolari Lenard was well placed to lead the charge in finding a solution, through a unique project dedicated to helping Venice.” Well, here’s hoping for more of such ideas around the globe!
