If you’re the superstitious type, you would probably want to put a tiny scratch on your brand new car yourself, before it gets a scratch from driving it around. It’s a good way to get it out of the way, so you can stop worrying about your “first scratch” and just use the car. Now, think if you’d feel the same way if the car in question was a $3.5 million hypercar. For one owner taking delivery of his limited-production Pagani Utopia, the answer is that he’s unbothered.
A clip posted by bayarea.motors on Instagram shows the aftermath of an onlooker dropping an umbrella on the naked carbon fiber finish of the V12-powered, manual transmission hypercar. The car was reportedly being showcased during its public delivery when the bystander’s umbrella was mistakenly dropped on the car. As per the poster, the Utopia hadn’t yet been treated to a pain protection film, so the tiny scratch you may or may not see in the video, has actually gone through the clear coat.
Going by the comments on the post, the owner is a pretty chill guy and doesn’t care though. In fact, he’s said to have racked up over 50,000 miles on his other Pagani, even driving it to and from trackdays! A couple of detailing services in the area have already offered the owner their skills to cover up the mistake.
If the owner really is as unbothered as his followers have pointed out, we doubt the scratch would warrant a full paint correction. After all, the first scratch only counts if you can see it.
