Cunard line’s Queen Victoria ship to be built in Italy

A ceremony marking the Keel Laying for Cunard Line’s Queen Victoria was held in Italy. The keel is the lower part of the outer hull and is the base of the ship upon which everything else is built. The first ship for Cunard built in Italy, this stylish queen is being constructed at Fincantieri’s Marghera yard near Venice. With the launch of Queen Victoria, three Queens will steer collectively under the Cunard (the greatest and most famous ocean liners in the world) banner for the first time in history. The second-largest Cunarder ever built, this 90,000-ton vessel, Queen Victoria will depart on her Maiden Voyage on December 11, 2007, sailing together with Queen Mary 2, the largest liner in the world, and Queen Elizabeth 2, the most famous ship in the world. With her distinctive black and red livery, the latest classic Cunarder is expected to have worldwide appeal, especially in the American market. Both modern and sophisticated, Queen Victoria will be extending the Cunard lineage into the 21st century and providing a full complement of comforts for vacationers with high expectations. In design terms, Queen Victoria will have a contemporary British feel with two British design teams in charge of her interiors.
