Thanks to Chanel, Paris is getting its first permanent fashion museum

As one of the fashion capitals of the world, Paris has long enamored style savants and fashion designers, so it’s only fitting that the city of love, lights and couture finally gets a museum dedicated totally to fashion. And behind the museum is one of the most iconic French fashion houses in the world: Chanel. The maison has partnered with the Palais Galliera to create the first permanent fashion museum in France. It will be situated in the 670-square-meter basement of the Palais Galliera

According to a statement from Chanel the space will be devoted to the history of fashion from the 18th century to the present day, and the museum’s permanent collections, which comprise some 200,000 garments, accessories and documents.

“The House of Chanel is delighted to promote Paris and in particular to support the Palais Galliera by making its exceptional collections accessible to all in new, permanent spaces. This initiative represents a lasting commitment to creation and to the strength of Paris, which are at the heart of Chanel’s business. Supporting an institution like the Palais Galliera is part of our mission to bring fashion history to life,” said Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Chanel Fashion.
