Meals from a tube – This Russian airline celebrated Cosmonauts day by treating passengers to space food

On the 12th of April, which is celebrated as Cosmonauts Day, S7 Airlines, a budget carrier based in Russia serves their passengers a selection of meals worthy of the occasion. Cosmonauts are basically the Russian equivalent of Astronauts and their meals, as you can imagine, have to be outer space friendly. These unusual meals are presented to passengers of S7 Airlines flights from Moscow to Samara, Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Chelyabinsk, and on the return flights to Moscow.

Passengers on board will be offered, at mealtime, a choice between an ordinary sandwich and a space tube with tvorog cream and fruit sauce. The destinations mentioned all have space connections Samara is home to the exhibition centre: Samara Cosmos; Yekaterinburg, hosts the Museum of Space and Rocket Technology; Kaliningrad boasts the world’s only space communications research ship, Cosmonaut Viktor Patsayev; and Chelyabinsk features the Chelyabinsk Oblast History Museum where visitors can admire a large piece of meteor rock weighing more than 500 kg.
