Over the last few decades, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) might have become synonymous with grand cities and towering skyscrapers; however, the Middle Eastern country is just as much about its unique desert landscape as it is about its modern cities. Comprised of rugged plains, dunes, rocky outcrops, and small jebels (mountains), UAE’s harsh environment that the Bedouins once traversed is the perfect playground for adventure junkies. And now, the country will soon be home to the first-of-its-kind off-road and adventure park that will let the adventure-seekers experience off-road obstacles, mountain bike trails, and more in the Mleiha desert. Called XQuarry, the adventure park is spread across one million square meters in Al Faya Mountain. It has been built with the help of Mleiha and Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (SHUROOQ).
The adventure park reportedly features various off-roading challenges along an obstacle course, hiking trails, private off-roading lessons, mountain biking, 4×4 hire, and more adventure activities. Thrill-seekers can bring their own bikes, 4x4s, and remote-control cars and try their hands on tackling the challenging terrain of its sweeping quarry and the rocky desert. Prices start at Dhs50 (about $13.5) for the adventure park, which will give you full-day access to the park to explore on foot. For Dhs150 (roughly $40), you can go off-roading with a passenger to accompany you on the challenging dirt tracks. The majority of the course is made up of gravel, rocks, and even a mud pit. Before the opening, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi visited the adventure park where he, along with his entourage, took on the park’s terrain in a Hummer H1, Mercedes G500 4×4, and a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. The quarry opens on February 4.
