When tourbillons were first added to timepieces, they were meant to counter the effects of gravity on the unit as a whole. As time passed, these additions to watches soon turned into a novelty and fashion statement. Fashion house Chanel recently unveiled its newest timekeeping apparatus, the Premiere Flying Tourbillon. Fashioned to mark the 25th anniversary of the company’s first watches, the watch is inspired by the octagonal geometric shape of the legendary perfume No. 5 bottles and the famous Place Vendôme. Sporting a black analog dial, a flying tourbillon, hands made of 18 – carat white gold and adorned with 15 diamond, and a watch case with a diameter of 37 mm, made of 18 – carat white gold with the bezel and crown encrusted with 101 baguette-cut diamonds with a total weight of 5.2 carats and 127 brilliant-cut diamonds with total weight 2 carats respectively, this timepiece makes a fashion statement like none other, chic yet technologically advanced.
