Patek Philippe’s first ever Aquanaut Chronograph is a fresh take on a classic

Patek Philippe has debuted the very first chronograph in their Aquanaut series. The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph Reference 5968A also has a more youthful vibe than other Aquanauts thanks to the vivid orange strap, a stark contrast to the neutral shades usually seen on Aquanauts.

The stainless steel 42.2mm case is the same as most other Aquanauts, a no frills design with the only additions being the buttons for the chronograph. The watch is powered by the self-winding CH 28-250 C which has hour and minute functions as well as a date function and chronograph. The chronograph here features a classic column wheel as well as a modern vertical disc clutch. Because the clutch is virtually friction-free, the chronograph hand can also be used as a continuously running seconds hand.

The Aquanaut Chronograph comes with two strap options, black and orange and its dial sports some subtle orange accents. It is priced at $43,770. We love this watch with the citrusy orange strap, it’s a departure from what some fans will be used to, but adds some much needed freshness to a classic watch.
