This one-of-a-kind timepiece is touted as the world’s first wearable art gallery as it contains three of Vincent Van Gogh’s finest masterpieces recreated in microscopic size created by British artist David A Lindon. The bespoke timepiece was created to commemorate the Van Gogh Museum’s 50th anniversary. Called the Vincent Van Gogh Masterpieces Watch, each of the microscopic paintings is smaller than a full stop and measures around 0.5mm. According to its creator, this is the first time that micro-sculptures have been featured traveling around with the movement of a watch. David claims it took him 2 months to complete each of the three microscopic recreations of Van Gogh’s finest masterpieces.
The Van Gogh paintings recreated by Englishman are The Starry Night (1889), Sunflowers (1888), and Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat (1887). These are so small in size that they are not visible to the naked eye. Japanese watch brand Zeroo Time’s T4 “The Archer” appears to be the canvas used by David for the micro-sculptures. The fully-skeletonized mechanical watch features a tonneau-shaped case with sapphire crystals on all four sides, offering an uninterrupted view of the movement. The microscopic sculptures are made of gold, micro pigments, and nylon using a painstaking process. The tools used for making the micro-sculptures were also made by David and often had to be remade because of their fragile nature. The one-off timepiece is on display at an art gallery in Shropshire, England. However, the unique creation is being offered for sale by Hammond Galleries with an asking price of £150,000 (about $193,000).
