In an attempt to break the monotony of traditional coffee tables, design firm Discommon has come up with a unique concept of automobile-themed piece of furniture that pays tribute to some of the most iconic car designs. The Automotive Icons Table series is a 10-piece collection of bespoke coffee tables, each featuring an innovative replica of an iconic vehicle design infused into the surface. The table’s surface is CNC-machined from a single block of aluminum that measures four feet long by three inches thick. To make it unique, Discommon has blended the shape of the cars into the upper surface of the table as an appreciation to their beloved designs. The outcome is a unique coffee table with the illusion of a vehicular shape emerging from liquid metal.
Although the design firm released renderings of two such tables themed around Ford GT and Ferrari F40, the clients will be given the choice to select their own favorite car. Each car requires anywhere between 25 to 40 hours of CAD work to interpret the form and blend it into the plane of the table. There is no word on the price
