BMW M5 and M6 Gran Coupe Horse Edition celebrating the Chinese New Year goes on sale

Today marks the start of the Chinese New Year and celebrations across the world are already under full swing. This Chinese New Year ushers in the year of the wood horse in Chinese astrology and to celebrate the occasion, BMW has introduced the new limited ‘Horse Edition’ models that are set to go on sale on February 1. BMW is offering thirty M5 Horse Editions that are available for the Chinese customers along with the more exclusive M6 Gran Coupe Horse Editions that are limited to only six in number.

Both the special edition M5 and M6 will come fitted with the Competition Package and a couple other optional features, and the special stitching marking the year of horse on the headrest adds to the uniqueness. The M5 Horse Edition has been priced at CNY1.98 million ($330,000 approximately) while the M6 Gran Coupe is the more expensive of the two, priced at CNY2.77 million ($458,000 approx). The additional horses under the hood thanks to the Competition Package helped the special edition M6 break the world record for fastest lap around the Shanghai International Circuit for a production 4 door car, with the help of BMW Driving Instructor, Claudia Hürtgen by doing a 2:28:04 time aboard the Gran Coupe.
