He guided Lewis Hamilton from karting to seven F1 titles, and now Anthony Hamilton auctions the $4 million, 27-car British collection he quietly built, from a near-mint Jaguar XJ220 to the Mercedes C63 his son drove during his championship years

Anthony Hamilton, father of seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton, is preparing to part with one of the most impressive collections of British classic cars to come to auction in recent years. A total of 27 vehicles from his private garage, collectively valued at more than £3 million (about $4 million), will cross the block at Iconic Auctioneers‘ sale during the BRDC Classic weekend at Silverstone on July 25. Fittingly, the collection will be displayed at The Wing alongside the Hamilton Straight, celebrating both the family’s racing legacy and Anthony Hamilton’s passion for British motoring.

While Anthony Hamilton is best known for guiding Lewis from karting prodigy to Formula One superstar, his personal automotive tastes are rooted firmly in classic British engineering. Of the 27 cars on offer, 23 were built in the United Kingdom, with just three Mercedes-Benz models and a single BMW adding variety to an otherwise distinctly British lineup.

Leading the sale is a 1993 Jaguar XJ220 that has covered only 3,800 miles and carries a fully documented service history. One of Britain’s most iconic supercars, it is expected to fetch as much as £550,000 (roughly $725,000), making it the most valuable car in the collection.

Another major attraction is a meticulously crafted recreation of the ultra-rare Jaguar XKSS. The Jaguar lineup also features two C-Type continuation cars recreating the legendary XKC001 Le Mans winner and the XKC003 Mille Miglia car driven by Stirling Moss and Norman Dewis, along with three desirable E-Types, including two 1967 Series 1 Roadsters and a rare Series 3 V12 finished in Heather.

Beyond Jaguar, the collection showcases a broad cross-section of Britain’s automotive history. Aston Martin contributes a 1982 Lagonda, a 1970s Series 3 V8, and a rare 1990s V8 Coupe, while Triumph enthusiasts will find a scarce Triumph Italia, a unique TR5 prototype believed to be the only surviving example of its kind, and two Spitfires. The collection also includes every sought-after 1960s Mini Cooper S variant, complemented by two David Brown Mini Remastered models and a rare David Brown Speedback GT, one of only 100 examples produced worldwide.

The sale also features three Mercedes-Benz models that reflect different eras of the marque. They include a beautifully presented 1960 190 SL, a naturally aspirated 2013 C63 AMG Edition 507 owned during Lewis Hamilton’s championship-winning years with Mercedes-AMG Petronas, and a 1989 300SL that was previously owned by heavyweight boxer Billy Walker.

The collection also reflects Anthony Hamilton’s broader involvement in motorsport beyond managing his son’s career. In recent years, he has remained active in driver development, taken on an FIA-linked role supporting young talent, launched the HybridV10 motorsport concept, and expanded his involvement in classic car restoration through 110 Garage and its partnership with the National Motor Museum. Together, those ventures suggest these cars were assembled by someone deeply invested in motorsport culture and automotive heritage rather than simply collecting high-value classics.

The auction comes less than a year after Lewis Hamilton revealed that he had sold his own multi-million-dollar car collection, explaining that his interests had shifted toward collecting art instead of automobiles. While the Formula One legend has stepped away from car ownership, his father’s carefully curated garage now offers collectors a rare opportunity to acquire some of Britain’s most celebrated classics from a single collection, with many of the country’s most iconic marques represented under one roof at Silverstone.
