Swarovski unveils a rideable carousel decked with 15 million shimmering crystals

If there’s one thing symbolic of a happy, carefree childhood, it has got to be a carousel. And bringing you an upgraded version of the same is Swarovski that recently unveiled its new offering – a shimmering merry-go-round affixed with 15 million shining crystals. Yes, that’s right! The enchanting model is designed by the marquee in close association with designer Jaime Hayon and is quite clearly one of its most jaw-dropping installations to date.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Austrian countryside, the carousel is a fully functional, interactive ride that is encrusted with a whopping 15 million Swarovski crystals along with effectively placed soft lighting and 12 ceiling and six wall panels. It measures 6.5-meters-high with a circumference of 12.5 meters and is capable of hosting 28 passengers at once. The artwork is currently located in the vast grounds of the hugely entertaining Swarovski Kristallwelten (Swarovski Crystal Worlds) theme park in Wattens, Austria and even features seats for wheelchair-bound writers.

Commenting on the beautiful offering, Hayon in a statement said, “The Carousel provokes feelings of freedom and joy — it is an art piece in movement and a place where imagination starts,” He further added, “I’m excited for people to be transported into this fairy tale. Swarovski has the ability to dream along with you – they are not afraid of a challenge and they are willing to go all the way to turn an idea into reality. To have this opportunity to create such a beautiful project that will be in Kristallwelten for years to come is an honour.” Fancy a luxe crystal embedded ride for yourself?
