Amazon founder and the world’s fourth richest man Jeff Bezos and his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott are both on a spending spree. While the author/philanthropist is giving away millions in charity for the betterment of the world, the ace businessman may be investing his moolah to make more. Per Business Insider, Jeff Bezos is presumably mulling his biggest purchase yet- an NFL franchise. Bezos and rap mogul Jay-Z are reportedly interested in forming a partnership to purchase Washington Commanders.

Dan Snyder with team players and Maryland governor-elect Larry Hogan.

The news comes after the team’s billionaire owners, Dan and Tanya Snyder, shared that they had hired Bank of America to “consider potential transactions,” which could include a sale.

According to CBS Sports, should Snyder decide to sell the lot, the price tag could be to the tune of $5 billion. Walmart heir Rob Walton bought Denver Broncos for an eye-watering US$4.65 billion. Incidentally, Bezos was also keen on that team. Jay-Z, worth an estimated $1.3 billion by Forbes, has a keen interest in buying the team, albeit with a partner onboard. Who better than $114 billion Bezos to join hands with? The hip-hop star was a part-owner of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets till he sold his share in 2013.

Bezos has a reputation for being linked to several teams but never really investing in them. Since 2018, the billionaire businessman has been linked to Washington, the Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, and Los Angeles Chargers, in addition to Denver Broncos. None of those rumors amounted to anything, but the NFL franchise may change things.
