Kanye West files documents to legally change his name to ‘Ye’

Would you change the way you are addressed by most? Well, we don’t know about you, but renowned singer-rapper Kanye West is all set to change a huge part of his identity, i.e., his name, via an official change. Yes, you heard that right!

As per the latest reports, the man is rooting for ‘Ye’ and has also filed documents to effectuate the name change. The 44-year-old has petitioned the LA courts for the same, which has also been his established nickname for a long time.

Kanye has also used the moniker as the name for his eighth album, released in June 2018. In September of the same year, he further expressed intent to accept the shortened name with a tweet that read: ‘The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.’

Commenting f on the name, the rapper in a statement to radio host Big Boy had also previously mentioned, “I believe “ye” is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means “you,” ‘So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything.”

According to TMZ, the filing was done in Los Angeles and is subject to approval by a judge considering the rules surrounding name changes in the state of California. As per the norm, name changes are ordinarily approved so long as no evidence exists that the new moniker will be used to commit fraud.

In other news, Kanye is all set to also release his next album Donda, on Friday, August 27, 2021. Here’s wishing him good luck on the new name and album!
