A new day and a new effort by Mackenzie Scott to make the world a better place – The billionaire author selflessly donated $6 million to the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh and $2.4 million to the Greater Sacramento Urban League.

Magnanimous MacKenzie Scott is back at making the world a better place, one donation at a time. Doubling up the donations and goodness is the benevolent philanthropist and ex-wife of Jeff Bezos. She donated $6 million to the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, the largest single contribution in the Pittsburgh affiliate’s 104-year history. The author matched this generous action with another similar one by gifting the Greater Sacramento Urban League an unsolicited $2.4 million donation, the largest single contribution in the organization’s history. These are two of 25 Urban League affiliates around the country to receive massive contributions from the billionaire benefactor.

In a press release, Carlos T. Carter, Urban League president, and CEO, said, “We’re honored and grateful that Ms. Scott and her team have recognized the Urban League’s value and impact to the community,” he said. “By placing racial equity and social justice at the forefront of her philanthropic mission, Ms. Scott is shining a much-needed spotlight on the nation’s structural and institutional limitations and helping to build a stronger, more resilient society for everyone.”

The organization that works relentlessly on the job training and placement and housing assistance aims to use the gift to leverage additional funding to build a new mixed-use housing project on land it owns in Del Paso Heights, per Sacramento Business Journal. The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, on the other hand, will use Scott’s enormous gift to enable African Americans to achieve economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights, according to the release.

Despite giving large sums of money with both hands, amounting to nearly $12 billion according to Forbes, MacKenzie Scott is still worth more than $30 billion and plans to give every cent away.
