The ‘I can’t get enough’ hitmaker has got enough and more as Selena Gomez, with more than 381 million followers, has become the most followed woman on Instagram. Scoring the top spot means trouncing someone from their ruling position. Gomez has surpassed Kylie Jenner, whose massive following is 380 million. It is admittedly surprising that Selena has managed this feat, as the 30-year-old has had an on-again, off-again relationship with Instagram. She was ruling the roost earlier, too, but decided to take a break from the platform. She was the most followed woman on Instagram in 2016, beating her BFF Taylor Swift. In 2017 the reign continued with more than 130 million followers till 2018.

2019 was the year when Kylie Jenner sat on the throne as the most-followed woman on Instagram. Selena Gomez may be the queen of Instagram without doing much; Gomez admitted in an interview with Vanity Fair that she only has TikTok on her phone. “The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it to be a little less hostile,” she said. “There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually, that’s filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. Everything I do, I send to my assistant, who posts them.”

As far as comments, my team will put together a few things that are encouraging.” not only is Selena not nearly as active as Kylie Jenner on social media, she intends to take yet another sabbatical from it. She blamed the toxicity and blatant ruthlessness of netizens for this decision. “People can call me ugly or stupid, and I say, whatever. But these people get into detail,” she said. “They write very specific and cruel paragraphs. I cried constantly. I had constant anxiety… I couldn’t keep doing it. It was a waste of time,” she explained. Someone rightfully said heavy is the head that wears the crown!
