One thing is certain: if you’re rich, you will get noticed. This statement holds particularly true for the affluent Ambani clan of Reliance Industries, more so than for other billionaire families. All it takes for them to make headlines is simply being seen. Of course, they give the world ample fodder with their multi-million dollar wedding parties, like when they booked the entire town of Positano or invited Katy Perry and the Backstreet Boys to perform aboard a cruise liner they chartered for four days.
Recently, matriarch Nita Ambani, wife of Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, made heads turn at the unveiling of Tira’s flagship luxury store at Jio World Plaza in Mumbai, thanks to her sartorial choices. Tira, a beauty retailer under Reliance Retail, is spearheaded by her daughter, Isha Ambani. The woman often seen in labels like Oscar de la Renta was sporting Chanel classics, complemented by a scene-stealing Chanel Popcorn Minaudière from the Fall-Winter 2024/25 collection. While the website states the price is “on request,” the handbag is nearly $30,000.
The striking resin accessory features a pop of pink enamel ‘Pop Coco’ tag, a playful nod to classic popcorn boxes and is topped with an enclosure of imitation pearls and gold-tone metal. The 16 cm by 11 cm Popcorn Minaudière features a single compartment that won’t house much except some examples from Ambani’s $50,000 tailor-made lipstick collection or some cards and keys.
It’s quite refreshing to see the 60-year-old strut around with such a funky piece of arm candy, especially as she’s usually spotted with more solemn, and much more expensive, handbags like the Hermès Birkin. But a fun evening out with her clan called for the Chanel charm, and the chairperson of the Reliance Foundation didn’t disappoint.
Note – As of writing this article, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Mukesh Ambani has a net worth of $99.7 billion.
