The title of the ugliest clogs has been snatched from Crocs x Barneys’ collection featuring awkward rubber charms, ridiculous metal hardware, and silver spikes coupled with cheetah print-back straps. Hard to imagine something could surpass that after reading the description, right? We are as staggered as you, noticing that Givenchy has made its way to the top of the ugly-clog charts by making its own frightful, sawtooth version of Crocs. Givenchy’s new creative director Matthew M. Williams unveiled the Fall 2021 lookbook that showcases patent leather platform boots, chunky hardware slides, and worst of all, these unsightly suede clogs with multiple spikes. It does give birth to the question if fashion is inherently outlandish? Williams said of his inspiration, “Ultimately, what I am trying to do in the Givenchy collections is reflect today’s world,” Yes it is, a lot like today’s world, specifically the year 2020. Unbearable at first look, then comfy (we all enjoyed those many weeks nestled in bed with Netflix, food, and no company), but still horrendous looking from the outside!
The Givenchy clogs are shaped like regular Crocs with a suede topping that holds the spikes making the footwear seem more like a weapon than a shoe. What an ingenious passive-aggressive way of shooing people away, isn’t it? If clogs aren’t your thing, but spikes are, the good news is that Givenchy will soon drop these in a slide form. Each pair is crafted using new TPU techniques, meaning the shoes are plush and flexible and teach us not to judge a book by its cover. They will both come in black and brown suede to make it easy to match with your axes and nunchucks. Keep track of the official Givenchy website to buy them from the big, bad world.
