With the Russia-Ukraine war going in full swing, there’s bound to be some wrath in other parts of the world too. And proving so is Chanel which recently blocked Russians from shopping at the brand’s outlets, while leaving them fuming in anger.
Many of them are said to be wealthy Moscow socialites who fled the country and came to Dubai to shop for their favorites. Commenting on it, Russian interior designer and influencer Liza Litvin stated that she was refused a Chanel bag in a top Dubai mall, embarrassingly enough.
Taking to social media, Litvin wrote, ‘I went to a Chanel boutique in the Mall of the Emirates…They didn’t sell me the bag because (attention!) I am from Russia!!!’ She further added, ‘Next, the manager said that starting from today, they were selling to Russians only if they sign an agreement not to wear their items in Russia.’
Singer and leading TV fashion show presenter Anna Kalashnikova was also blocked from buying earrings and a bag in Dubai. At the same time, several others (including a Moscow-based music show producer complained of going through a similar ordeal in Paris and Italy.
Further, customers are also being asked: “to confirm that the products they purchase will not be used in Russia.” The instructions are being implemented in the wake of the brand’s new policy, which many countries claimed to have forced.
Commenting on it, however, Chanel, in a statement, said, “We understand that these measures, aimed at complying with the requirements of the law, may create certain inconveniences for some customers. We are currently working to improve the procedure and apologize for any related misunderstandings and inconveniences.” Well, talk about suffering in the name of luxury!
