Brora Iris, 50-year-old single malt, is an exceptional piece of art from the Brora Distillery. The bottle represents the company emblem, the eye of a Scottish Wildcat in a stunning artsy avatar, and is expected to fetch a price of $650,000 at auction in partnership with Sotheby’s. Not only is it incredibly eye-catching, pun intended, but it is the oldest Brora single malt that has ever been bottled. Brora Iris is presented in a 1.5-liter decanter and suspended within a monolithic stone sculpture.
Scotland-based sculptor and artist Michelle De Bruin used the same limestone to build Brora Distillery for the sculpture. The five-decade-old creation was donated to The Distillers One of One Charity Auction by Diageo, the world’s leading Scotch whisky distiller. The highest bidder will also be offered the opportunity to visit the resurrected distillery with five guests.
Jonny Fowle, Head of Whisky at Sotheby’s, said: “It is with great pleasure that we can introduce Brora Iris. Few distilleries in the world conjure such majesty and awe as Brora, and the opportunity that this one-off art piece and incredible whisky presents puts this item as one of the top lots within the auction. Having tasted it myself, I can say this is a truly exceptional Brora.”
Javier Ferrán, Diageo Chairman, said: “We are delighted to be able to support The Distiller’s Charity with the donation of Brora Iris to the upcoming Distillers One of One auction. We look forward to seeing the industry’s contribution benefit the young people and communities that the charity supports across the length and breadth of Scotland.”
The second Distillers One of One Charity Auction will occur at Hopetoun House, near Edinburgh, on Thursday 5th October 2023.
