Louis Vuitton, the French luxury label, has been a staple of style for 170 years. It is now also a staple of sumptuousness, as Louis Vuitton’s The Hall receives one Michelin star in Chengdu, China. It is a rather ‘Speedy’ accomplishment, and a Michelin Star is no small feat, especially since the restaurant opened in 2022 and has already established an impressive reputation. The very first Louis Vuitton restaurant in China offers contemporary European cuisine infused with local Sichuan touches.
Under the supervision of Italian chef Leonardo Zambrino, gastronomes can indulge in a delectable trifecta of Sichuan spirit, European flair, and Italian craftsmanship. The Hall is not just a gimmicky gastronomic paradise created by a successful luxury brand, but rather an earnest attempt at bridging the gap between the world of luxury and haute cuisine.
If anyone could ace this act, it had to be LVMH, a master of luxury. At The Hall, one can expect the same sensory satisfaction as in an LV store, with plenty of textures, temperatures, and flavors that fuse East and West.
The Hall by Louis Vuitton is located in downtown Chengdu and is renowned for its Yunnan mushrooms. The pan-European menu costs $181 for a five-course meal and $265 for an eight-course meal. This news comes at a time for LVMH, which is struggling with an increasingly challenging business environment in China. They have already downsized the massive Tiffany & Co. flagship store in Shanghai, which opened in 2019, owing to the economic slowdown.
According to Bloomberg, LVMH sales in China tumbled 14% in the most recent quarter. LVMH’s watches and jewelry segment saw its revenue fall 3% in the first half, making it one of the worst-performing sectors. Fortunately for them, their unexpected foray into fabulous food is not a reason for disappointment.
