When the new and old, past and present converge, it can only lead to something magical, and it is here for us to sample. The Macallan has released its oldest whisky, an 84-year-old, in a limited edition collection dubbed Time: Space. This collection celebrates the label’s 200-year history with a decanter surpassing anything the brand has achieved. The dual-chamber vessel includes the oldest 1940 whisky in the outer chamber, while the inner chamber houses the first release from its new distillery. In one ravishing red move, Macallan has managed to bridge a gap of nearly 80 years, presenting an unmatched testament to its commitment to craftsmanship and innovation.
This exceptional release, a gem for connoisseurs, draws inspiration from past Whisky Masters and various cask styles, resulting in layers of complexity and depth of aroma, texture, and flavor. Only 200 have been created from two hand-selected casks: a first-fill American Oak Butt and a second-fill European Oak Butt, matured for 84 years in Speyside. The 2018 Macallan whisky gives enthusiasts a sneak peek into a bright and promising future. With contents that transcend time, it is only natural that the decanter housing Macallan’s genius is equally impressive. The circular decanter resembles a striking oak sculpture, further enhancing the natural color of the liquid. The hypnotizing design symbolizes a wheel of time, representing the journey from past to future.
As Bloomberg aptly put it, the single-malt Scotch brand created liquid history with the two-bottle Time Collection, priced at an eye-watering $190,000. To mark the 200th anniversary, only 200 of these dual-bottle packages will be released. The Macallan Time is available for purchase by invitation from The Macallan.
Another version of the collection called Time: Space Mastery is a single malt packaged in a similar circular bottle but for a more reasonable $1,400. Its highlight is that the whisky incorporates 14 different cask types.
