Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but when a diamond weighs over 1,000 carats, it’s not just a friend, it’s a fortune! A rough diamond weighing precisely 1,094 carats has arrived at the headquarters of HB Antwerp, the prestigious diamond company tasked with cutting it. Named Seriti, this extraordinary gem is already the stuff of legend. Mined in Botswana, a country renowned for yielding five other diamonds surpassing 1,000 carats, Seriti was unearthed at the Karowe mine, owned by the Canadian company Lucara.
One of the world’s most valuable diamond mines, Karowe has now delivered yet another spectacular find, which made its way to Antwerp, the only place equipped with the advanced technology to unlock its true brilliance. HB Antwerp’s expert gem cutters are set to analyze Seriti’s potential, using state-of-the-art tools to reveal its color, clarity, and ultimate value. These processes will determine its worth, which is expected to reach several tens of millions of euros.
In August 2024, the Karowe mine made history once again by producing the second-largest diamond ever discovered, a breathtaking 2,492-carat stone. Unearthed using avant-garde X-ray technology by Canada’s Lucara Diamond Corp., this marvel marks one of the most significant finds since the legendary Cullinan Diamond (3,106 carats) was discovered over a century ago.
