Only in Canada: Cop impounds YouTuber’s dream car, a Nissan GTR, for speeding then drops him and his date off at a Tim Hortons while his mother drives down to pick them up

It’s true what they say about everyone being nicer in Canada. Brendan McMartin, a YouTuber with over a million subscribers to his channel, found that out the hard way. The MTB influencer was clocked doing 93mph in a 56mph zone in his modded Nissan GTR, by an officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Highway Patrol. McMartin’s GTR was impounded immediately and he was written a ticket. The cop offered to drop McMartin and his date off at a nearby Tim Hortons coffee shop to stay warm while McMartin’s mom drove down to pick them up.

It’s not every day you’d hear of an act of kindness from a member of the police force after they’ve issued someone a ticket. Considering McMartin was nearly 40mph over the speed limit on a cold, dark highway, the cop does have to be lauded for going above and beyond his duty here. Of course, where the internet’s collective opinion lands on speeding laws is not up for discussion here. As for the incident, the YouTuber had a radar detector in his car. As he’s now learned, radar detectors are helpless against laser speed guns issued to the police.

The cop, who was parked on the shoulder of the highway, heard the GTR rev up and take off from a traffic light. He managed to tag the GTR doing well over the speed limit and then caught up with him to ticket him. As McMartin’s video update to the incident reveals, he was actually on a first date at the time. Turns out to be quite an expensive first date, as the speeding ticket fine totals $255, while the towing and impound charges and fines could very well cross the $2,000 mark, according to some sources.

The vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

McMartin had previously revealed how he was broke until very recently and managed to save up to buy his dream car, the Nissan GTR in question, before modifying it with an MTB-themed vinyl wrap and a custom exhaust. Hopefully, he’s learned a lesson about speeding on public roads. Or at the very least, radar detectors and speed guns.
