Selfridges store to launch a silent shopping area

Inspired by the idea of its founder Harry Gordon Selfridge in 1909, British luxury shopping department store Selfridges will launch a silent shopping area this coming January. This quiet zone will be housed in the store’s Ultralounge, and guests will be asked to leave their shoes and mobile phones outside before they step into this tranquil area. Meditation sessions and headspace pods further enhance the relaxing environment. Space also boasts of a Quiet Shop which will sell de-branded products and a selection of pieces from the spring ready-to-wear collections of labels such as Acne, Maison Martin Margiela, and Jil Sander.

In an age where customers are constantly bombarded with information, ads, and bids to sell various products, this silent area will provide shoppers with much-needed moments of peace to compose themselves.
