In a Fast and Furious-style robbery, thieves targeted a Porsche racing facility in South Florida in the middle of the night, stealing a semi-tractor and a trailer that contained race cars, spare parts, and gear worth $1.5 million. They struck Rennsport-One’s property at around 3 am Sunday and made off with the tractor-trailer. Justin Bellinzoni, the owner of Rennsport-One, a Porsche race shop in Pompano Beach, Florida, told local news that surveillance footage showed two people driving into the parking lot and leaving with the tractor-trailer and its contents 20 minutes later.
“I thought it was a bad dream, and I just wanted to wake up,” Bellinzoni said. “I was gutted man, we work really hard for what we do and we need these cars to compete and we have commitments to our customers and obligations to fulfill, and to see cars disappear it – was gut-wrenching.” Details of the four stolen Porsche race cars have not been disclosed.
However, they are presumed to be the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport models that Rennsport-One runs in GT4-spec SRO and IMSA competition, according to a report by Road&Track. Each of those race cars can cost somewhere near $200,000.
Reportedly, the trailer was fitted with a GPS tracker. The last known location was in the Southwest Miami area before the tracker went silent at around six in the morning. The tractor was later recovered from a nearby residential area, but the trailer and everything inside are still missing. Bellinzoni even hired a private investigator who used an aircraft to track down the trailer.
The Porsche race shop took to Instagram to reveal details of the robbery and promise a large cash reward for any tip that might lead to the recovery of the stolen items. “Insane that someone had the sand to steal a whole rig and trailer,” a user commented on the Instagram post, while another wrote, “How does that get stolen?” We sincerely hope the race cars and all the other items stolen in the robbery are recovered soon.
