Inspired by the Dragonfly Ornithopters of ‘Dune’, this ultra-modern Dubai villa costs 800% more than the combined salaries of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya

Art inspires art, or in some cases a magnificent Dubai villa. Architecture and design studio Isto unveiled a stunning ode to cinematic genius, Dune movie series, starring Timothée Chalamet, and Zendaya. The $40 million Dragonfly villa is a nine-bedroom, 2,500 square meter abode that instantly brings to mind a picture of the ornithopters or winged aircraft used in the sci-fi blockbuster. The modern residence in the heart of La Mer, will stand out owing to its peculiar design and materials like metal, glass, plaster, and water.

“The core idea of the villa is hidden in smoothly and gracefully dividing the living space into two wings. The design inspiration lies in imitating the structure of the dragonfly wings. The long and flat roofline and this architectural silhouette of two open wings seamlessly cope with this crucial task. And we were also inspired by the world of the Dune movie and delved into its meanings and story,” ISTO lead designer Anton Yaroshenko told Arabian Business in an exclusive interview.

The Dune-inspired home features an unusual, flat roofline and the silhouette of two open wings. The similarities to the insect are highlighted using lighting installations and metal decorations on the facade that replicate the physiology of the odonate. The home welcomes ample natural light owing to floor-to-ceiling windows while affording the owners striking views of the sea and the Dubai cityscape that includes the iconic Burj Khalifa. Much like a bilateral insect, the home also is conceived in two sections.

“The right wing of the living space is more private and is intended specifically for the client’s family. The futuristic long and flat roofline depicts two dragonfly wings that rise up and seem to be preparing to take off. Lighting installations, metal decorations on the facade, and the wall-mounted pergola of the inner part of villa fully unveils the characteristics of intricately veined, membranous wings that have colored markings,” Yaroshenko said. The abode is highlighted by stunning water features and futuristic accents. Dragonfly is in the early stages of development and is not currently for sale.
