A historic windmill from the 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is on sale for a cool $12 million. The scenic countryside home has six bedrooms, a swimming pool, and an old-world charm.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was known for its fantastic flying car. There was another element from the 1968 film that became synonymous with the much-loved film- the windmill. Home to the Potts family, the iconic Cobstone Windmill in Buckinghamshire is selling for nearly $12 million.

The 1816 Cobstone Windmill in Ibstone, Buckinghamshire, overlooks the village of Turville. It was purchased by Actress Hayley Mills over a century later in 1971. Her husband, Roy Boulting, carried out restoration work. The property later went into the hands of Aston Martin owner Sir David Brown in the 1980s.

Its current owner purchased the windmill nearly 50 years ago. The Grade II-listed windmill includes the main house, with six bedrooms affording incredible views of the Hambleden Valley, a double garage, and even a swimming pool. Also included in 37 acres of space is a large tractor barn, workshop, store, and stable building. The historic main house opens into a grand double-height drawing room with floor-to-ceiling doors. Further in, a large terrace overlooks the sheltered swimming pool. Estate agents Savills and Private View Property are handling the property sale.

Stephen Christie-Miller, of Savills said, ‘From the moment you arrive at Cobstone Mill, it becomes immediately clear how special this property is, and for many, it will be instantly recognizable.” he added, “From the beautiful architecture of the windmill to the spectacular views down the Hambleden Valley, Cobstone Mill has to be seen to be believed, and this is even before you bring into consideration the home’s extensive film history. I am sure that the home’s unique heritage, combined with today’s offering in a prime Buckinghamshire location, will appeal to both domestic and international buyers that are looking for the best of the best.”

He concluded, ‘Yes, some homes claim to be iconic. However, nothing comes close to Cobstone Mill.’ Nicholas Brown of Private View Property said, ‘I am very fortunate to have acted in the sale and purchase of a great many of the finest homes over the course of 40 years. However, I can safely say that Cobstone Mill is perhaps the very best-known of them all. It is a true landmark, and the setting and views are, without doubt, breathtaking. To be able to market this iconic property is a huge privilege, and for the next lucky owners, imagine inviting your friends to come and stay at the best-known windmill in the world.’
