Land Rover has finally revealed the fifth-generation Range Rover flagship luxury. The 2022 Range Rover might look familiar to the outgoing model, the British marque has tweaked the styling to make it even more elegantly minimalistic, while giving the luxury SUV more technology, enhanced luxury, and an updated line-up of powertrains. Here’s a list of things that have been updated on the new Range Rover to help it compete with flagship SUVs from Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Rolls-Royce.
1. Land Rover has reworked the aesthetics of the Range Rover to make the design even cleaner than before. The minimalistic styling of the full-size SUV is completely in contrast to its competition, with most of them being updated with louder styling elements. From every angle, the 2022 Range Rover’s styling is uncluttered and simply beautiful, especially the front end which gets a sleek grille with a pretty-looking pattern and a two-tone paint scheme.
2. Land Rover says the restrained styling of the Range Rover has considerably reduced the drag coefficient, making it around 12% more aerodynamic than before. Slippier bodywork is helped by other elements like retractable exterior door handles for better aerodynamic performance.
3. The new Range Rover is underpinned by a new platform. Land Rover says the new MLA-Flex architecture is made of about three-quarters aluminum and offers 50% greater torsional stiffness than its predecessor, which should help reduce the overall weight and give better driving dynamics.
4. A long list of top-shelf features come as standard on the 2022 Range Rover, which includes electronic air suspension that makes the luxury SUV super comfortable even on bad roads. Rear-axle steering is also standard equipment across the range, which allows the back wheels to turn up to 7 degrees. The massive SUV has a tighter turning radius than a Honda Civic Sedan, which is incredible.
5. To deal with body roll on corners, the 2022 Range Rover is equipped with a Dynamic Response Pro system, making it the first Land Rover model to feature the technology. The system uses the SUV’s 48-volt electrical system powering the active anti-roll bar that is faster and more efficient than comparable hydraulic systems.
6. The minimalistic theme is carried over on the inside. The cabin’s design is free of clutter and superfluous design elements. To make it more luxurious than before, Land Rover is offering new materials along with the latest tech. In addition to super-premium leather and wood trimmings, customers can choose from plenty of different sustainable materials, including premium wool-blend fabric.
7. A beautiful 13.1-inch horizontally oriented curved touchscreen is located at the center of the dashboard and is home to the automaker’s Pivi Pro infotainment system. A pair of 11.4-inch displays mounted on the back of the front seats come as optional extras.
8. In addition to the standard- and long-wheelbase variants, the 2022 Range Rover will also get an elongated variant that is approximately 8 inches longer than the standard Range Rover and offers a foot of additional wheelbase. This frees up enough space inside the cabin for three rows of seating and room for up to seven people.
9. The Autobiography and First Edition variants get a Meridian Signature Sound system as standard which has a total of 35 speakers to offer 1,600 watts of power. The audio system also gets active noise cancellation helped by a pair of 20W speakers in each of four main headrests.
10. The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover will be available with plenty of different powertrains. The base version gets a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six helped by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, while a new 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 sourced from BMW replaces Land Rover’s old supercharged 5.0-liter. The range will also include a plug-in hybrid model and an all-electric version will be added to the line-up in 2024. The prices start at $105,350 and will hit the showroom floors in the US next spring.
