2025 is shaping up to be the year of megayachts. While superyachts like Oceanco’s Project Y722 (364 feet) and the 640-foot REV Ocean, slated for summer delivery and currently undergoing sea trials, are making waves, another floating giant has joined the list. A new 402-foot Lürssen superyacht, known as Project Omega, has been sold by Moran Yacht & Ship, though delivery is expected in 2029.
Lürssen is no stranger to opulent, mammoth-sized luxury vessels, and this latest project is right in their wheelhouse. After all, they made headlines with Shahid Khan’s 400-foot Kismet. As for the new-build 5,200 GT yacht, Moran Yacht & Ship will oversee the complete construction. Both the interior and exterior design come from the British-based studio RWD, with accommodations for 20 guests across 10 cabins.
Commissioned by a mystery billionaire, details remain tightly under wraps, but it’s expected to be a goliath packed with luxe amenities like a beach club, full dive center, and expansive outdoor spaces for entertainment and relaxation. The shipyard made headlines in 2024 for delivering the largest superyacht in the United States, the $450 million, 466-foot Dragonfly, to Sergey Brin, co-founder and board member of Alphabet, with an estimated net worth of $128 billion.
While Oceanco may claim accolades this year with REV Ocean, it’s only a matter of time before Lürssen dominates once again with the completion of Project Omega, which already sounds like a winner in the making. Interestingly, Lürssen’s yards are bustling with under-construction behemoths, including the 351-foot Shackleton, the 337-foot Project Jassj, and the 440-foot Project Deep Blue, according to Boat International.
