Mercedes-Benz adopts the dark side with the new Night Series package exclusively created for its Maybach models

Mercedes-Benz has introduced its new Night Series options program which has been created exclusively for its ultra-luxury Maybach sub-brand. Available as a premium add-on for all three Maybach models, the Night Series design package will allow buyers to personalize their vehicles to a higher degree of exclusivity. While this new top-of-the-line package can be seen as a move by Mercedes to compete against Rolls-Royce’s highly successful Black Badge treatment, it only includes cosmetic interior and exterior enhancements to set it apart from the rest of the range. The Maybach models with the Night Series options package will be mechanically identical to the standard cars they are based on.

The Night Series package adds a lot of exclusive upgrades, including dark chrome and rose gold trim, dark-gloss wheels, jewel-cut surfaces, and herringbone wood patterns inside the cabin. In addition to that, there are also some model-specific treatments that are included. Starting with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, the Night Series model can be ordered with the Onyx Black/Mojave Silver two-tone finish or the buyers can choose from an assortment of black, grey, and white finishes.

The highlight on the outside has to be the bespoke wheel design that features a dark finish along with lots of Maybach logos. The dark metallic chrome elements are contrasted by rose gold accents in the headlights.

Inside the cabin, the interior is wrapped in exclusive two Nappa leather upholstery created by the bespoke Manufaktur division. Customers can choose between two options: Deep White/Black Pearl Exclusive and Black Pearl Exclusive. Other unique elements on the inside include herringbone interior accents, multiple Maybach logos, a piano black trim element with decorated with the brand’s insignia, and an exclusive start-up animation for the MBUX infotainment system.

The Maybach GLS and the EQS models get a similar treatment both on the inside as well as the outside. However, the wheel design is extended onto the air intakes on the front bumper of the GLS, as well as the Maybach EQS model. In addition to the sedan’s two-tone exterior finish, the GLs can be had in white or Obsidian Black, while the EQS will be available in Obsidian Black or Diamond White. Inside the cabin, the two Maybach SUVs will be offered with Black Pearl Exclusive or Crystal White/Black Pearl Nappa leather combined with wood trim featuring aluminum accents. Furthermore, the EQS model will come with eco-friendly Econyl carpet, while the automaker says the upholstery is vegetable tanned.

Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of the Mercedes-Benz Group, said: “Night Series is the most progressive Maybach design package – it’s our already well-known supreme aesthetics, heightened with exquisite, darkened motifs. Our goal was to create an exciting new style, offering a playful sense of rebellion that is unexpected to what you usually see in a Mercedes-Maybach.”

Mercedes has yet to reveal the pricing of the Maybach models with the Night Series package, but we expect it to be at least $25,000 more than the standard models. In comparison, the Rolls-Royce Black Badge models are around $45,000 more expensive than their counterparts in the line-up. Introduced in 2016, the Black Badge program has been a runaway success for the luxury manufacturer, accounting for as much as 50% of the sales in some markets. It will be interesting to see if Mercedes is able to recreate the same magic with the Night Series package.
