Mercedes-Maybach has tapped Lloyd Werft to construct Beyond Horizons, a 508-foot floating members’ club, where 300 invitation-only elites will share equal balcony suites, rose-gold interiors, an infinity pool, and Mediterranean-to-Caribbean itineraries

For more than a century, the Maybach name has been associated with some of the most luxurious automobiles ever built. Now, the storied German marque is preparing to make an even larger statement, this time on the water. The company-backed Maybach Ocean Club has announced that German shipbuilder Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven has been selected as the shipyard partner for Beyond Horizons, a remarkable 508-foot (155-meter) superyacht designed to become the centerpiece of an exclusive floating members’ club.

The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony at the Mercedes-Benz Center of Excellence in Sindelfingen, according to Radio Bremen, bringing together representatives from Maybach Ocean Club, Lloyd Werft, and Mercedes-Benz Design. While the project still awaits conversion into a final construction contract, the partnership marks a significant milestone for one of the most ambitious luxury hospitality concepts currently in development.

A Maybach-inspired sanctuary at sea

Developed in collaboration with naval architects Dölker + Voges, Mercedes-Benz Design, and Lloyd Werft, Beyond Horizons has been envisioned as far more than a traditional superyacht. Measuring 155 meters in length with a 22-meter beam and exceeding 15,000 gross tons, the vessel has been designed as a private floating community rather than a billionaire’s personal playground.

One of the most distinctive aspects of the project is the absence of an owner’s suite. Instead, the yacht will feature 30 identical residential-style suites, each offering approximately 74 square meters of living space and a private balcony. The decision reflects the philosophy behind the club, where every member enjoys the same level of accommodation regardless of status. Six additional guest cabins positioned forward will be available for visiting friends and family.

At any given time, the yacht will accommodate a maximum of 72 guests served by a crew of approximately 80 to 85 people. The result is an exceptionally high level of personalized service that aligns with Maybach’s reputation for exclusivity and refinement.

The onboard amenities have been designed to rival the world’s finest luxury resorts. Plans include panoramic lounges, multiple dining venues showcasing haute cuisine, a comprehensive wellness center with spa, fitness and yoga facilities, a split-level infinity pool, expansive sun decks, and a marina-style beach club offering direct access to the sea. Live music performances, art exhibitions, cultural programming, and curated events will further enhance the experience.

Redefining luxury travel

The yacht’s exterior and interior design draw heavily from Mercedes-Maybach’s automotive identity. Working under the direction of Mercedes-Benz Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener, the design team has translated the brand’s “Sensual Purity” philosophy to an entirely new scale. Sculpted surfaces, elongated proportions, signature rose-gold detailing, and elegant cream-colored finishes create a visual language instantly recognizable to Maybach clients.

Beyond Horizons will also be supported by a dedicated 70-meter shadow vessel designed by Laurent Giles. The support ship will carry tenders, water toys, technical equipment, and operational staff, allowing the main yacht to maintain its uncluttered, resort-like atmosphere. Environmental considerations have also played a role in the yacht’s development. The vessel is expected to utilize green methanol or biodiesel propulsion technology while incorporating cruelty-free leathers and lower-impact materials throughout the interior.

Lady Moura was owned by Saudi businessman Nasser Al-Rashid

The concept itself emerged from an idea conceived during the pandemic by superyacht captain Matthias Bosse while serving aboard the iconic 104.9-meter Lady Moura in Monaco. Observing how one of the world’s most famous yachts spent long periods sitting largely unused, Bosse envisioned a new model where extraordinary vessels could become social hubs for a carefully curated community rather than assets enjoyed by a single owner.

That vision evolved into Maybach Ocean Club, an invitation-only membership platform expected to bring together around 300 wealthy individuals from across the globe. Members will gain access to seasonal itineraries spanning the Mediterranean and Caribbean, along with curated experiences ranging from private cultural events to exclusive shore excursions and partnerships with luxury brands, watchmakers, fashion houses, and elite private clubs.

Should the project move forward as planned, Beyond Horizons is expected to be delivered in 2029. More than simply another large superyacht, it represents an attempt to create an entirely new category of ultra-luxury travel, one where the prestige of the Maybach name is combined with the exclusivity of a private club and the freedom of exploring the world’s oceans aboard one of the largest yachts ever conceived.
