The Cyklaer e-bike is co-created by Porsche and comes with a rearview camera and removable electric powertrain

The global market for e-bikes is growing at a rapid pace, and the Covid-19 pandemic has further accelerated the trend. According to some predictions, half the pedal bicycles sold in Europe will have a motor by 2025, while the market is set to double by the end of this decade. The number of premium e-bikes that have been launched over the last few years is simply staggering. In case, you’re in the market looking for a stylish, high-end e-bike, there’s a brand new option from Germany. Last year, Storck Bicycles got into a partnership with Porsche Digital along with Fazua and Greyp Bikes. The collaboration has resulted into an innovative, sporty e-bike named Storck Cyklaer.

Porsche Digital is a subsidiary of the iconic German car brand and its involvement in the project is very interesting. “With Cyklær, we jointly developed an attractive e-bike that really utilises the possibilities offered by digitalisation. It is sporty and light and, thanks to its e-drive, also ensures a comfortable ride to work. In addition, users can enjoy a host of benchmark-setting features that will continue to be further developed by us in the future – with their cooperation,” says Markus Storck, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Storck Bicycle GmbH.

The Cyklaer features a full carbon fiber frame and fork to make it as light as possible. In addition to that, the e-bike comes equipped with a 1 x 12 SRAM Force AXS electronic-shifting drivetrain along with DT Swiss G 1800 wheels with Schwalbe G-One tires, and SRAM Force AXS hydraulic disc brakes. The electric powertrain of the Cyklaer is pretty intriguing. The Fazua Ride 50 Evation electric drive unit is located inside the down tube and consists of both a 252-Wh lithium-ion battery and a 250-watt motor. When the rider doesn’t want electric assist, the entire unit can be easily removed. The company claims the motor provides a top motor-assisted speed of 16 mph and a claimed range of up to 75 miles per charge.

The Cyklaer also gets integrated front and rear video cameras that can record the riding experience to be shared on social media. It also works as a rearview mirror with the live video displayed on the handlebar-mounted smartphone with a dedicated Porsche Digital-designed app. The Cyklaer app also provides navigation as well as GPS tracking that helps with theft alerts and remote locking. The Cyklaer e-bike is available in three variants: the E Gravel, E Gravel with streetwear (racks and mudguards), and the E Urban (also with streetwear), with the prices starting at €6,999 (about $8,200).
