Porsche pays tribute to its 718 racing legend with the new 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S

Porsche loves the engine placed in the middle of its cars. This certainly won’t change, as the German automaker resurrects the legendary Porsche 718! The car was a revolutionary development in the world of automobiles in the past, boasting of a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph) as well as brilliant maneuverability. Porsche has brought the 718 back to life, in a whole new spirit. The Boxsters and Caymans produced by Porsche up ahead will bear the 718 badge, paying tribute to the good ol’ mid-engined racecar from the 50s.

The upcoming 718 Boxster will pack a 2.0-liter, turbocharged flat-four powerhouse. The engine is stated to produce an enormous 300 hp. The 718 Boxster S on the other hand will sport a 2.5-liter engine and will produce 350 hp. According to Porsche, the turbo fours used in the 718 Boxsters will also improve fuel economy by at least 13%! When it comes to speed, the 2.0-liter car crosses the 60 mph mark in 4.5 seconds. The 2.5-liter car on the other hand touches 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds! The cars will come with a six-speed manual as standard while a PDK will be optional. Complete with LED daytime running lights and a bunch of other cosmetic changes, the 718 Boxster will hit store shelves in June with a price tag of approximately $57,050 and upwards.
