It’s been two months since Bugatti teased the mighty V16 engine that will power the upcoming successor to the Chiron. While we’ll have to wait for a couple of months for Bugatti’s next offering to be officially revealed, a pair of spy shots recently surfaced on the internet, giving us some tasty details on the hypercar. One of the images was uploaded by TopGear magazine, which shows the profile view of a prototype of the hypercar hidden under a camouflage wrap. Thanks to the picture, we know that the yet-to-be-named hypercar retains Bugatti’s signature silhouette along with the sweeping C design element on the side. However, the C appears to be stretched on the top end, making it more pronounced. It extends all the way up to the front, where it horizontally splits a vent integrated into the bumper.
The Chiron successor also features Bugatti’s instantly recognizable low-slung front fascia. However, the front overhang appears to be longer than that of Chiron and Veyron. At the rear, the hypercar features an active pop-up wing like its predecessors and a massive rear diffuser. The second spy shot that made its way on the internet gives a better view of the rear, which features a thin LED taillight that extends from side to side and hugs the contours of the rear haunches. Additionally, the hypercar also appears to be longer than Chiron in the pictures, which is quite possible as it needs more room to accommodate the new V16 engine. Sadly, most other design details are concealed by the camo wrap on the prototype. But an Instagram account by the name of Rubber Therapy released a design rendering based on the spy shot, which suggests the soon-to-be-revealed hyper will look like an evolution of the Chiron.
Most of the other details are still shrouded in absolute secrecy, including the new hybrid powertrain. Rimac-Bugatti previously described the plug-in hybrid power unit as “heavily electrified.” If rumors are to be believed, the powertrain will feature an 8.3-liter V16 along with three electric motors with a combined output close to 1800 horsepower. We’ll have to wait till June 20, when the new hypercar is anticipated to be introduced at Bugatti’s Molsheim, France HQ.
