In Spain’s port city of Vigo, jaws dropped not to gulp down a Whopper but at the sight of Burger King billionaire Jorge Paulo Lemann’s $100 million Anawa explorer yacht that boasts a range of 6,000 nautical miles, a submarine garage and a helideck that becomes a dance floor

Jorge Paulo Lemann is the billionaire owner of Burger King and Heinz, and while he famously maintains a disciplined lifestyle with simple life choices (he had never eaten at Burger King before buying it as it looked too big), the self-made tycoon did indulge in a superyacht. Christened Anawa, this Damen Yachting SeaXplorer 65 is a thing of beauty owned by the Burger King boss, worth $26 billion.

The only Xplorer 65 model she looks distinctive with a very recognizable greenish hull and a silhouette that makes it apparent this boat means business. For a man who lives on dried fruit and green salads all day, this steel giant is his one wild indulgence.

The expedition machine spans 203 feet and was delivered in 2020, right in time when the world shut its doors on tourists. The ship boasts exterior design from the drawing boards of Azure Naval Architects. The very impressive and robust 1,843 GT vessel sleeps 12 guests in 6 cabins, serviced by 20 crew.

There are four decks in all with several amenities. But the ones that stand out are a hangar that serves as a permanent base for its owner’s personal helicopter, a Helibras 350, a tender garage for a submarine, sailboats, a dive store, and a customisable 195 square meter covered outdoor area. While a tennis court will not be plausible for the former tennis star who won the Brazilian national tennis championship five times, perhaps it can be utilised for the more new age fascination with padel or pickleball.

The helideck, when not utilised for helicopter operations, transforms into a spacious 150 square meter party deck (1,615 square feet) accommodating up to 100 guests, or as a basketball half court. Warship like Anawa flaunts two Caterpillar C32 engines, allowing it to reach a top speed of 16 knots, offering a range of 6,000 nautical miles at 11 knots, and Polar Class capabilities.

Currently, the striking Anawa was spotted sailing through Vigo to dock at the Marina Davila port in Bouzas, reported La Voz de Galicia. As expected, the $100 million superyacht grabbed the attention of onlookers owing to its no-frills exterior that commands attention effortlessly.

About the owner, Jorge Paulo Lemann, who is part Buffett, part Sam Walton, part Roger Federer-

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1939, today the billionaire owns stakes in Restaurant Brands International, the company behind Burger King. A few decades ago, he was the son of a Swiss immigrant who came to Brazil to sell Swiss dairy products and built a small local business. But it was not a straight path from dairy products to burgers. Lemann first worked as a business columnist at the Rio newspaper Jornal do Brasil. Then came brokerages that led him to lead Brazil’s premier investment bank.

With his partners, Carlos Alberto Sicupira and Marcel Herrmann Telles, came several acquisitions, including the takeover of Lojas Americanas, a chain of retail stores that is now among the largest in Brazil. Burger King came much later in 2007 through a New York-based 3G Capital. In 2013, they joined hands with Berkshire Hathaway to buy Heinz for 23 billion dollars. The 86-year-old father of five who resides in Zurich, Switzerland, owned the 49-meter Amels explorer Karima before Anawa.

The luxury vessel Anawa has been spotted not only in fancy marinas but in Norway’s fjords, Guernsey, Vancouver, Cairns, and Sardinia, clearly hinting the adventure seeker favours nature and range over Mediterranean magic.
