With the aim of catapulting Diriyah into a global cultural, historical, and lifestyle hub, Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans for ‘The Arena’ at the global real estate exhibition MIPIM in Cannes. The multipurpose 20,000-seat arena is part of the $63.2 billion Diriyah masterplan in Riyadh and is enlivened by London-based HKS Architects. Imposing with a monolithic exterior and utterly impressive, the arena spans 76,000 square meters and will function as a hub of sports, entertainment, and culture. The arena will draw visitors from around the globe to a center that incorporates the traditional Najdi architecture motif, reflecting centuries of heritage.

Talk about amalgamating the new and the old while effectively establishing itself as the premier venue in the Middle East. This promising new tourism hallmark will be stupendously instrumental in shaping the region’s events landscape. Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO of Diriyah Company, said: “The Arena in Diriyah is a cornerstone element of our mission to blend tradition with innovation. Also under development is the country’s first opera house.

Diriyah’s outstanding arena will be joined by a shopping district and an outdoor plaza for performances. HKS Architects lead architect Alex Thomas stated, “We are exceptionally proud to be a part of this project. The architecture rises from the landscape as a series of monoliths, evoking local geological formations and alluding to ancient Najdi forts and palaces that have animated and lit ‘digital waterfalls.’ The visual energy of the waterfalls serves as a beacon, drawing guests to the dynamic experience inside.”
